Telnyx
CommSync reads the texts on the Telnyx numbers you pick, and it sends your replies from the same number.
Telnyx
Bring the numbers of your Telnyx account into your CommSync inbox.
Telnyx is a carrier you buy numbers from directly. It has no single “Connect with Telnyx” button, so you paste two values from the Telnyx portal: an API key, and your account public key. CommSync uses the API key to list your numbers and to send texts. It uses the public key to check that each event really comes from Telnyx.
Phone providers explains what every connection does. This page adds what Telnyx does differently.
Before you start
- Any Telnyx account with billing turned on
- Access to API Keys in the portal
Good to know
- CommSync moves the lines you pick to a new messaging profile named CommSync, so their texts come to CommSync.
- Texts on those lines then stop going to the webhook of their old messaging profile.
- Keep those lines on the CommSync messaging profile. A line you move to another profile in Telnyx stops sending its texts to CommSync.
- A Telnyx number in the US texts only US and Canadian numbers. Telnyx reaches other countries from a sender ID, not from a phone number.
- To text US numbers at full speed, register a 10DLC brand and campaign in Telnyx.
- CommSync shows your Telnyx texts, and your calls stay in Telnyx.
- Have a Telnyx account with billing turned on. Telnyx refuses an API key on an account that cannot bill. The setup page names this when it happens.
- Buy the numbers you want in CommSync. CommSync lists the numbers that already sit on your Telnyx account. It never buys a number for you.
- Register a 10DLC brand and campaign, to text US numbers. Telnyx gates US long-code texting behind The Campaign Registry. Without a registered campaign, US carriers throttle your texts or refuse them. Telnyx answers a refused send with an error, and CommSync shows that error on the message. Open 10DLC in the Telnyx portal to register. A toll-free number needs its own toll-free verification instead.
Connect Telnyx
Open Settings → Phone numbers and pick Telnyx.
Use an API key
Open API Keys in the Telnyx portal
Click Create API Key
Copy the key. Telnyx shows it only once.
Open Public Key
Copy the public key. CommSync uses it to check that events come from Telnyx.
Paste both values into CommSync
Open Settings → Phone numbers, pick Telnyx, and paste the two values. CommSync checks the API key with Telnyx before it saves anything, and it stores the key encrypted. The public key is not a secret. Telnyx publishes no way to check a public key, so CommSync checks only that the public key has the right shape.
A public key from another Telnyx account passes that shape check. Your numbers then import, but no text arrives, because CommSync refuses every event whose signature does not match. The account card says so after a few refusals in a row. Copy the public key again and reconnect.
Finish in CommSync
Pick the lines
CommSync lists every active number on the account. Pick the ones you want in your inbox.
CommSync sets up live updates
CommSync points a messaging profile named CommSync at its own webhook. See What CommSync changes in Telnyx below.
History starts when you connect
Your Telnyx conversations start with the first text after you connect. See No history import below.
What CommSync changes in Telnyx
Telnyx delivers texts per messaging profile, not per number. So CommSync creates one messaging profile named CommSync, points it at its own webhook, and moves each number you picked onto that profile.
Those numbers stop using their old profile
A number you pick no longer sends its texts to the webhook of its former profile. Another system that reads that webhook no longer receives texts on that number. CommSync remembers the former profile of each number. When you remove a number, or remove the account, CommSync puts the number back on it.
Keep your picked numbers on the CommSync profile. If you move one to another profile in the Telnyx portal, its texts stop arriving in CommSync. Move it back to fix that.

| Item | What CommSync does |
|---|---|
| Inbound texts | They arrive at once, over the webhook. |
| Inbound picture messages | The images arrive with the text, as attachments. |
| Outbound texts | They go out through Telnyx, from the same number. The bubble shows Sent, then Delivered or Failed. |
| Texts you send in Telnyx | They appear in the conversation, because Telnyx reports them on the same webhook. A group text does not. |
| Group picture messages | They stay one conversation, with every member in it. You cannot reply to the group from CommSync yet. |
| History | Your conversations start on the day you connect. See No history import below. |
| Calls | Your calls stay in Telnyx. CommSync shows your Telnyx texts only. |
CommSync also checks your Telnyx message records every 5 minutes. That is the safety net: Telnyx stops after 6 failed delivery attempts, and the regular check reads anything the webhook lost.
No history import
CommSync imports past texts from most other platforms it connects to. Telnyx is an exception, and the reason is Telnyx, not CommSync.
Telnyx keeps two things about a text. The message holds the words and the pictures, and Telnyx serves it for 10 days. The detail record is the billing row: it names the message, the two numbers, and whether it arrived, and it holds no words at all. Telnyx publishes no other list.
So a history import would either reach back 10 days, or it would fill your inbox with empty texts. CommSync does neither. Your Telnyx conversations start with the first text after you connect, and they carry every word from there.
Limits
- Pictures you send: up to 10 per text, 1 MB in total.
- Group replies: none. A group conversation says “Reply to this group in Telnyx.” in place of the reply box.
| Limit | What it means |
|---|---|
| One recipient per text | CommSync sends one text per person. It does not use the Telnyx group send. |
| No group replies yet | A group conversation shows “Reply to this group in Telnyx.” in place of the reply box. To reply to the whole group, use the system that sends texts through your Telnyx account. |
| Group texts from Telnyx | A group text that you send through Telnyx does not appear. Telnyx reports it one person at a time, and it names no full member list. |
| 10 files, 1 MB in total | That is the cap on one picture message. CommSync refuses a larger attachment before it sends. |
| No history import | Your conversations start on the day you connect. See the section above. |
| No contact names | Telnyx has no address book. A new number stays a number until you name the contact in CommSync. |
| 50 texts a second | Telnyx slows an account down there. CommSync paces its own requests under that limit. When Telnyx asks it to wait, the bubble shows a countdown, not a failure. |
When something needs your attention
The account card in Settings → Phone numbers shows the state of the account, and each error names the one thing to do.
CommSync turns each Telnyx error into one sentence on the failed message. The common ones:
| What you see | What to do |
|---|---|
| Finish the 10DLC or toll-free registration | Open 10DLC in the Telnyx portal and finish the registration for that number. |
| This number cannot text in Telnyx yet | Open Numbers in the Telnyx portal and turn on messaging for it. |
| The carrier blocked this text as spam | Change the words, or finish your 10DLC registration. |
| The carrier slowed this text down | Tap Try again on the message. Telnyx took this one, so it does not come back by itself. |
| This person replied STOP | Telnyx blocks this pair. The person must text START to that number to undo it. |
| Telnyx did not accept this API key | Create a new key under Auth, then paste it with Reconnect. Telnyx shows a new key only once, so copy it before you leave the page. |
| Telnyx had a problem | Tap Try again on the message. CommSync never re-sends a text by itself. |
Telnyx can refuse a key it took before. The account card then reads Reconnect needed. Paste a new key on that card, and the sync starts again.
